Applications

Confocal & Super Resolution Microscopy

Pavilion Integration Lapis® laser-based illumination engines are ideally suited for fluorescence confocal and super resolution microscopy illumination research in cellular biology.

Due to the diffraction limit of light, traditional confocal microscopy cannot resolve structures below ~240 nm. Super-resolution microscopy techniques, such as STED, PALM or STORM or some deconvolution processing methods, are used when enhanced resolution is needed to study structures and molecular events below the diffraction limit scale.

Laser illumination may be configured with a variety of wavelengths and output powers to suit research needs. Each engine is pre-aligned before leaving the factory, and never needs realignment, making it a reliable light source at multiple wavelengths, with minimal downtime for maintenance. Additional laser lines can be added as research needs change. Lapis® laser engines are designed to operate over environmental changes that commonly occur in laboratories, such as temperature, airflow, and bench top vibration.
